About

Hello and welcome to Pickles and Pastry.

I'm Sian, a working wife and mum with a passion for simple food for hungry folk. I don't believe that good food has to mean spending hours in the kitchen or tracking down unusual ingredients. Good food is something that we should eat every day with our friends and family.

In our kitchen there's a healthy mix of made from scratch meals, a helping hand from packets and jars and a few beige favourites from the freezer too. I never make my own pastry and shortcuts are my friend.

We don't believe in fads either. We aim for a balanced approach of getting our five a day but making sure that cake features regularly too.

So who are?

Sian: 36 year old working wife and mum. Third sector bod, baker of cakes and eater of cheese. I read too late and complain about being tired the next day. I will steal the last chocolate hob nob.

Rich: 43 year old stay at home Dad. Sci fi nerd, snooker addict and king of fry up's. Fine line in cheesy humour. Good bloke.

Izzy: 7 going on 14 year old. Chief taste tester, makes a cracking banana bread and wins the who will scrape the bowl out argument.

If we seem familiar then you may know us from my previous blog - Fish Fingers for Tea. Our old online home was several years worth of work but unfortunately life got in the way and it had to go. But the end of 2016 sees us setting up here instead. We hope you stay for a while and help us settle in.
